A Greeting from the Commodore
I am honoured to become the next Commodore of the Entebbe
Sailing Club. In my new role I will be
supported by a large and enthusiastic Committee and I trust that together we
can continue to improve the facilities and activities for Members. In particular, I hope that we can build on
the interest in the sailing programme, which I introduced as the Sailing Member
in the last Committee, and improve the security, moorings and storage provided
for all boat owners. The Club also provides
a unique lakeside environment for the enjoyment of all Members, whether you
sail, fish, ski, swim or just relax; we
must try to conserve and enhance our inheritance.
As I am a relative newcomer to the Club and perhaps not yet
widely known to the membership you may be interested to learn something of my
background. I am a Londoner, now retired
and living with my wife Phina Nalugwa in Entebbe. By training I am a chemist and my career has
been involved with the science and applications of photography. I am a Past-President of the Royal
Photographic Society. I started sailing
on the Norfolk Broads sixty years ago and have been boating one way or another
ever since. As a scout leader for many
years I trained boys to sail and canoe.
My experience of racing was acquired in the inland, but very
competitive, Aylesbury Sailing Club in the 1980s. Other interests include caving,
mountaineering, and natural history, particularly the photography of
butterflies and birds.
